What Can We Expect On New Year's Eve In Rome?
Another thread prompted this question. I'll be in Rome on New Year's Eve and I'm wondering what to expect. There is brief mention of fireworks in my guidebooks but other than that not much information to be found. How do Romans celebrate NYE? If there are fireworks where should we go to see them? (we're staying near Piazza Navona). Is there a comman gathering place like Times Square for NYC? Thanks!

I was in Rome for New Years a couple of years ago. You'll find that most restaurants are booked in advance. We finally found something in Trastevere after a long wait. There are celebrations around town, one of the largest is in Piazza del Popolo. Enjoy

The Times Square of Rome is indeed Piazza del Popolo. For a restaurant dinner, either call favorite restaurants in Trastevere (centro storico is closed to car traffic at night, so you'll have to walk), or google 'cenone per capodanno a roma'. There is a free concert at Il Quirinale, I guess you have to stand there waiting a couple of hours before the show. There are other concerts, opera, just search online.

Sorry, I must have hit "send". Any suggestions for Tretavere restaurants on New Year's Eve?

Sorry, Chevre, for the delay. Also bringing your message to the top.
We spend last year's New Year's Eve at a restaurant in Trastevere that has since moved to the neighborhood of Parioli. I would ask the concierge at the hotel to recommend, even book the evening for you. Or make a list of the fodorites' favorites and call a few to see if they are open. Here you will find a brochure on restaurants, in case you need phone # http://www.romaturismo.it/v2/richies...materiali.html |
