What can I do when visa extension expires?

I arrived in Sweden in July 2014 and stayed for the entire 90days that I am allowed on the regular tourist visa for US citizens. My dad lives in Sweden so I was able to get a visa extension with a temporary residence visa allowing me to stay in Sweden until March 31 2015.

When this extension expires is it possible for me to leave Schengen for a few days and then return to Schengen on another 90 day visa in countries other than Sweden? Will I be allowed to return to Sweden after a few days out of Schengen? I'm having a hard time finding official answers.

Thanks for your help anyone!

I'm not sure how your extension might affect things - alec or another Fodorite may know for sure. But the basic answer is no. You are allowed 90 days in a 180 day period. So leaving for a few days doesn't work. You'd have to leave for at least 90 days.

To clarify, you must leave the entire Schengen zone for 90 days before re-entering the Schengen zone again.

You should ask these questions at a consulate, not on this forum.

Oh, yes . . . I meant leaving Schengen for 90+ days . . . not just Sweden.

But BigRuss is right.
