What area of city to stay in: Seville, Granada, Madrid?

Trip to Southern Spain scheduled to include Seville, Granada and Madrid. What is the best area of town to stay in within each of these cities? Best area for us would include most historical (oldest) areas close to sites and within walking distance of great restaurants and bars. I will be looking for either hotels or rental apartments in each. Please offer an opinion.

For Madrid I really enjoyed staying near Plaza Mayor.

Granada, I stayed at the Alixares Hotel which is by the Alhambra and Centro is a short walk away.

Can't help you with Seville. But if you want old, stay in centro.

If this is your first trip to Sevilla, then you'll want to stay in barrio Santa Cruz, where eveything is walkable.

I can highly recommend Hotel Casa 1800 in Sevilla. It's near the cathedral and Alcazar, in a lovely section and walkable to everywhere.

We also stayed in the Hotel Casa 1800 in Granada. It's a charming hotel, also walkable, but the section of town is not as quaint as the location in Seville.
