www.footloosetravel.com is a nice. Nice layout, easy to use with loads of train information and helpful travel suggestions. www.travelocity.com was useful for finding plane fares. www.nationalgeographic/traveler.com is nice if you just like to learn about new places.

For Ireland, try www.ireland-withpatpreston.com
Not only is there helpful information on all parts of the country at the site, but the woman who runs the site, Pat Preston, has a Q&A board. She will suggest itineraries, proposed modifications to itineraries, suggest hotels, restaurants, just about anything. It's a great site.
For those interested in all things French try
www.rescuefrance.co.uk, the commercial aspect of the site is only of interest to UK residents but the public forum is open to all and is brand new so needs all the support it can get
Andy
For events happening in Paris that are of interest, in particular, to people of African descent, the website Cafe de la Soul.

The site gives wonderful information about the influence of people of African descent in the city, from restaurants to museums to tours. Definitely was useful to me in planning my Paris trip in early September.

Check it out: www.cafedelasoul.com

I started this tread two years ago and thank everyone who contributed. It generated such wide and interesting topics and kept me busy for a long time following all the links. I hope more people will now add their favorites for us all to share and enjoy. What a wealth of knowledge is out there waiting to be discovered.

A noncommercial site for planning trips to Britain, especially useful for students and academic travellers but with plenty of helpful advice for anybody:

www.indiana.edu/~victoria/trip.html

This is the one that also includes (under "Fun Stuff") Ben Haines's great list of free lectures in London.

We all like to get the best deal on airfares. Instead of pricing fares individually on different websites, go to www.qixo.com and it will search more than 15 websites at one time and give you a comparison of fares. Saves a lot of time. Happy traveling!!
