Sure, Ron. I actually found the write-up on it in our Fodor's book (6th edition, Provence and Cote d'Azur, pg. 244) The church is a 15th century church, rather modest (more of a chapel really), but in the middle of absolutely nowhere, at the end of a dead-end road. What's amazing about it (besides the fact I just stated) are the frescoed wall panels. They are quite gory and rather crude, but such a wonderful example of the mindset of the artist of that era.
We took the route recommended in the book, A8 until Ventimiglia, then follow the signs to Breil-sur-Roya.
As for timing, we drove from Cannes up to Breil in about an hour and a half at the most, had a nice leisurely picnic lunch by the Roya River which runs through the town, then continued our journey all the way to Tende where we doubled back. We took the route back described in the book, route # D2204. It is NOT for the faint of heart! It's fraut with hairpin turns the entire way (we rarely got out of second gear), and my husband was a wreck by the time I took over the wheel (I drove the Cinque Terre last year...thought he'd have a heart attack!), but this was easier, which isn't saying much. At least they have guardrails for those 1000 foot drops!
