Yellow Tail seems to be popping up more and more in Australia. A restaurant had it on a promotion during a recent holiday on the south coast. I decided to order it as I saw that it was advertised as one of the top selling Australian wines in the US and I'm always willing to try something new. Funnily enough the waiter insisted that I try it before I bought a bottle, screwing up his nose as he did so. I must admit he saved me some money and I quickly ordered something else. I thought it was pretty ordinary. Perhaps the stuff we get here is different from the export??? It's available here retail for around A$10 a bottle (saw it at Vintage Cellars).

Yep, SeaUrchin, I'm still here, but falling asleep at the wheel, so to speak. The Veramonte is light and crisp with grapefruit tones. We like it especially in the summer heat for an aperitif.

All those Italian wines, oh my, I am longing for Italy but will not be there at all this year. I've copied the list and thank you for the recommendations!

(I've been watching this thread with eager anticipation, waiting for your account of languidly reclining on the verandah of your pillared plantation house, wistfully gazing down the column of spreading oaks festooned with resurrection fern at the distant levee, sipping a mint julep, but so far I've been disappointed.)

I'm trying to get a good airfare for PHL-CDG for October!!! Have been searching since spring and it doesn't seem to go down! Should I wait 'til the end of this month and give it one more try? Any suggestions would be very welcome.

Nothing listed less than around $575 PHL-CDG through the end of the month; around $100 less via NYC. PHL-LON (either LHR or LGW) is around $420; you can certainly EasyJet it over and back for less than the difference. With fuel prices at current levels I wouldn't hold out too much hope for bottom feeder fare sales before November. But of course I could be wrong.

Well....I must say...this is far more interesting and informative than any of the internet chat rooms.

Re wines....yeah...I don't see the enthusiasm for 3 buck chuck. There are WAY too many wines. I limit myself to inexpensive Italian and French wines; we'll have finished sampling, at the rate of a bottle a day, somewhere around 2149. Probably November. Then, like painting the SF Bay Bridge, we start anew.

Other than that, it's been a quiet day in Silicon Valley...well...mainly due to having spent all day perusing Fodors and Italy travel and such (we're going skiing at Courmayeur in March.) I'm getting into the swing...and wish we were leaving in, oh, 6 weeks. Oh well.....

Researching for trip to Singapore (September 2nd to 5th), then trip to Vienna (October 6-12), Tampa/Orlando/St.Petersburg (October 12 - 30), London (1st week of Nov), then trip to Los Angeles, CA (March next year).
All from my desk on a drilling platform in the middle of the south China sea, off the coast of Borneo. No wine allowed -- work location and Muslim country.
Once they make a decision in the office as to what we plan to do next I can get the boys back to work... I've got the 130 guys out here basically in "tidy up time" mode until we make sure we know what we're about to do.

Last bottle of vino in my house: I made Paella for first time with Marques de Riscal Rioja 2000. If you have not yet explored rioja, spanish wine, check it out. Great combo with paella....
