What am I doing wrong with the voyages-sncf website?

I'm trying to purchase train tickets on the TGV. Here's my itinerary:
22 April 2007 Roissy (CDG airport, right?) to Avignon TGV station at 11:49am for 4 adults
return 27 April 2007 Avignon TGV station to Paris (not CDG) at about 9:30am.

I can't figure out how to do multi-city itinerary so I tried purchasing 2 separate single tickets. The website will allow seats for the first leg, but the return will only give me seats on a train that leaves at 20:00something - very late on Friday. Does this mean there are only seats available on that train and not any earlier in the day? I must be doing something wrong - I'd appreciate any input and advice. Thanks!

You need to wait until 90 days away, and you are probably just over that for 4/27, I guess.

I just did search on the sncf site for the 27 april from Avignon TGV to Paris, it returns trains at 7h12, 8h46, 9h26, 12h33, 13h04, 14h01, 16h07, 17h07, 18h00, 19h12 and a new iDTGV at 20h01 – reservations are possible on all those trains (OK I tried only 4)
Wich departure time are you entering for the search ?

I'm trying to book/ticket the 9:26am train - I wonder what I'm doing differently...

Maybe the time format ...
What i'm doning to get the 9h26 :
departure Avignon,
arrival : Paris,
date (chosen in the calendar) : 27/04/2007
time (chosen in the list : 9h

Train tickets aren't like airline tickets. There is no point to booking a multi-city itinerary, roundtrip, etc., it doesn't affect the ticket price. Each trip is a ticket in itself, so maybe you would find it easier to make things simpler and not try to combine everything.

dorkforcemom,
I'm booking train tickets for the same trip, except I travel on the 21st and return to Paris on the 27th. I think we have to wait for a few days to book the return trip so that it's 90 days out. The same thing happened to me this morning when I went to book the return. So don't try doing it as a round trip.

dorkforcemom Jan 22nd, 2007 12:22 PM

OK - so I should go ahead and book/ticket/pay for the Roissy - Avignon TGV ticket and wait a few days to book/ticket/pay for the Avignon TGV ticket, correct? And am I correct that I want the Avignon TGV station as opposed to the Avignon centre station since we're picking up a rental car and headed to St. Saturnin?

kerouac Jan 22nd, 2007 12:24 PM

Yes, Avignon TGV is better for car rentals than Avignon Centre.

Forestland1 Jan 22nd, 2007 12:26 PM

Well...that's what I'm doing. Yes, it's Avignon TGV...we are returning our car their too. For the return...what station are you going to? We plan on going to the Gare de Lyon. I assume the train stops there.

dorkforcemom Jan 22nd, 2007 12:28 PM

Yes, Gare de Lyon, too. I'm assuming that will be a busy travel day since 1 May is a holiday - want to get a jump on my tickets - where will you be in Provence?

Forestland1 Jan 22nd, 2007 12:32 PM

We are staying near St. Remy for the week, then back in Paris for two nights before our return to Canada. How bout you?

dorkforcemom Jan 22nd, 2007 12:45 PM

Almost identical itinerary - staying in St. Saturnin, then last 2 nights in Paris before home...

Forestland1 Jan 22nd, 2007 01:14 PM

Isn't that a hoot. My husband and I arrive in Paris on the 21st at 8:40. I booked us on the 11:49 train. I sure hope three hours is enough time.
We are renting a place for week in St. Remy and just plan to do day trips from there. We were in Paris last year the first week of April and although it was cool a few days, there was some warmth to the sun. I just can't take too much heat (I'm a northern gal) so the end of April should be just right for us weather-wise.
Have you booked your rental yet...and do you mind me asking who you plan to use? I guess that is the next step. Also, do you know what time the car rental offices open on Friday? I would like to get that 9 a.m. train to Paris but if the rental office doesn't open till 9 that won't work. Thanks for your help.
