What am i doing wrong?? So frustrated!

I'm trying to look up regional train fares/schedules and can't find it online. I've found dozens of posts referring to the trenitalia website but when I put in my stations, I get the n/a treatment :( we are traveling early July and I even act like we're leaving next week and still nothing. I found the regional trains link on trenitalia but it asks me to register. Don't get me started on that site's registration process. I've done it so many times and get a password that never works. So frustrating!

This is what I'm trying to look up:

Train from florence to cinque terre
Train from florence to Pisa and then Lucca
Bus from florence to Siena (yep can't find bus schedules too)
Train from Naples to Pompeii then on to sorrento

And, as long as I'm asking, hydrofoil/ferry schedules for amalfi are where? Should we get tickets morning of travel or before?

Questions- we are traveling in July. Should we get train tickets night before? Bus ticket night before? Or, is the same morning fine?

Are you using the Italian place names? It's not going to work if you plug in, say, Florence instead of Firenze.

You also might try using Bahn.de

You also need to specify a town in Cinque Terre (translated, "five lands" - there are five villages).

On some trains you might be able to save money by buying ahead. These are the big trips, like Florence to Naples, for example. For smaller regional trains, you can't buy tickets more than seven days ahead, and I believe it would be the same price anyway.

Hi LL,

like st, Cirq says, first of all you need to use Italian place names, even on the english language website. and you need to use capital letters as appropriate ie La Spezia [the main town near the CT with a train station].

secondly, you need to be precise about where you are going.

I did the following:

for your first journey, Firenze to La Spezia [then it gives me the choice of Centrale or somewhere else, I picked centrale]. then 1.7.13 [as a dummy date].

nothing.

Then I put in a date in May, and got a question about whether I wanted to use all trains, as the special trains [frecciabianca etc] weren't available. YES!

Then i got a timetable for regionale trains and I altered the date back to 1.7.13 - bingo.

it takes a while but you'll get there in the end.

Buona Fortuna!

Yep I'm using Italian names. And yes I put in various cities for cinque terre (la spezia, monterroso, Pisa). I'll try again.

>>>I found the regional trains link on trenitalia but it asks me to register. <<<

You don't want that link. Use the regular Trenitalia link. Type slowly and watch the autofill. Select your town from the autofill selections. Enter a date within the next 7 days to see prices. You do not want to buy these regional tickets online as they are more restricted than if you buy them at the station.

Follow the directions about registering on this link. Keep scrolling down this link until you get to the part about registering. Do not click any of the links, just keep scrolling and reading. The web design may have changed a bit since this link, but it still tells you what needs to be done on the registration part.

Don't worry too much at present, as not all of the regional train details have yet been entered for the new season's timetable - which doesn't take effect until June 9th!

As an aside, if it's any help, the Italian version of the Trenitalia site lists all their stations - for example, here are the entries for the Liguria region:

http://www.trenitalia.com/cms/v/inde...003f16f90aRCRD

If coming down to Naples, you'll need Napoli Centrale... however you should be aware that the "Pompei Scavi" station (for the nearby archaeological site), and also the one at Sorrento, are both served not by Trenitalia, but the local Circuvesuviana railway... whose trains won't show up on the main TI site, except by way of note, here:

http://www.trenitalia.com/cms/v/inde...003f16f90aRCRD

Look for the timetable of the Naples Sorrento line here:
http://www.eavcampania.it/web/conten...io-ferroviario

..... and buy tickets for use on those trains after you've arrived in Naples, as Trenitalia don't sell them!

............................................

Rather similarly, you can find the current schedules, but not those for July yet, for the various ferries etc serving Amalfi, on these sites:

http://www.coopsantandrea.com/eng/se...ervizi_eng.asp

http://www.alicost.it/content/?id=6

... and on this one (which may include some repeats of those above, as some lines "share" their ticket outlets etc!)

>>>Train from florence to Pisa and then Lucca<<<

I would take the bus to Lucca (better AC) and visit Lucca in the morning. Eat lunch and then take the train to Pisa (many things in Lucca will be closed in the afternoon). Train back to Florence.

>>>Train from Naples to Pompeii then on to sorrento<<<

This is a local commuter train, not Trenialia.

It is possible that you are using the "LE FRECCE" fast train search link.

If you go to www.trenitalia.com, you are presented with the Italian page. If you are using the Italian page, the default look up is "LE FRECCE" instead of "TUTTI I TRENI". You will not find CT bound trains under "LE FRECCE". You must change to "TUTTI I TRENI".

If you are using the English page, then the "Tickets" tab will give you all the trains.
