Wet in Venice?
 

Recently I saw a news piece on the sinking of Venice. In the segment there was a man pulling his luggage through about 4" of water. Is it possible to get from the train station to our hotel(Monaco and Grand or Luna Hotel Baglioni) without getting wet? Do we need to take boots?

Dear Tammy, <BR>It depends. (how's that for a useless answer?) If you're lucky, you could spend a week in Venice and not see any high water at all. On the other hand, it could be a problem for much of your visit - there's no way to really know ahead of time. Where is your hotel? Some parts of Venice are a lot less likely to flood than others. Re-post with more specific information and I'll try to remember if I had any experience in that area. <BR>A general bit of advice - make sure you can carry ALL of your luggage at once, and keep it at least above your knees. My last day in Venice (in January) we walked through ankle-deep water to get to the Grand Canal to get to a cab - the water levels were so high that boats could not navigate the side canals.

Thank you Janice and Beth. Janice, the Monaco and Grand is on Canal San Marco 1325 and the Luna is at San Marco 1243.

Dear Tammy, <BR>I'm not happy being a wet blanket - but your hotels might be in "soggy" areas. Beth is right that there are walkways in a lot of the main areas - and boots are available. (a lot of hotels have them to borrow) My warning about luggage stands - make sure you can heft it! <BR>I'm looking for a website that used to give updates on the status of the high water - if I can find it, I'll post it back to this thread.
