Westminster experts...which tour the vergers or London Walks
I have heard recommedations for the verger tour on fodors, but I read the Westminster tour on the London walks website it looks good too!!!
So this question is for people who have been on either. Tell me what your thoughts were and what you would recommend. THank you, PJ |
I can only speak for the verger tour. It was really great. Our verger (Benjamin, who appears to be of Indian descent) was humorous and very well-informed, and clearly took the history seriously.
I think doing both would be the only way to tell! |
I think you are comparing apples and oranges.
The Verger led tour is a 90 minute tour of Westminster Abbey. It is available several times each day There are 9 Westminster walks on London Walks web site. To the best of my knowledge, the only one that goes inside Westminster Abbey is The Inside Westminster Explorer Day, which takes up most of a day and spends most of its time other places. It is only available once a week. Keith |
Thank you Keith, that helps my decision. THA VERGER TOUR IT IS! pj

We had a tour with the charming and humorous Benjamin, too, in summer 2001, and enjoyed it immensely. You get to see and hear things that just aren't part of a tour offered by outsiders. My daughter is a huge fan of Queen Elizabeth I and once he learned that, he made sure to sprinkle in plenty of relevant tidbits!

This is the answer to the same question I was just musing. Thanks for the answer. :)

Ah, another verger Benjamin fan club member here! Benjamin was delightful to tour with (although I'm sure other vergers are probably very good, as well.) He allowed my children to sit in the Queen's seat which was a huge hit and made them feel very special. I highlly recommend this tour.
