Westminster Abbey LONDON

Hello,
I heard about Westminster Abbey that there is an evening there you can walk through this master piece for free. Is it thrue? As anabody heard about it? Which evening?
Thanks

Not that I can see on the website, but you can try investigating further
www.westminster-abbey.org/

I'm not sure, but I think it is Wednesday night, and this is also the only time that photos are allowed to be taken.

Hopefully, someone else can confirm this.

By the way, the audio tour is well worth the nominal price (3 pounds, I think). It adds alot to your walk through the Abbey and you can take in the sights at your own pace.

We were there almost exactly a year ago and went to Westminster Abbey on a Wednesday night - not sure if it was free or not but certainly a reduced price. You could take pictures. We had been there before and enjoyed the different effects that the night had on the Abbey. There was also someone there playing the organ (might have been a coincidence) but that helped make for a very moving experience. I would definitely check their website to make sure they still do this.

Wednesday evening is the time to go. I don't recall a charge. I went on Wed. eve, because I was told that the choir and organist rehearses.

Hi again
I got curious enough to really search the Abbey website and I still couldn't find any mention of late closing or free admission on Wed or any other night.
I did find a London tourism website
that mentioned the Abbey being open on Wed nights to 7:45 with photography permitted, but I don't know if that is the most current information or not.
At the Abbey website you can email your inquiry; I'd love to know what the final answer is.
Anyone done this in the past month?
Straight from the Abbey's mouth, the Wednesday (or any day) late closing has been discontinued

Michelle:

One of the highlights of my first visit to London last year was the audio tour at Westminster Abbery in the late afternoon, followed by Evensong. You can check the website to see which days/times Evensong is sung. If you ask the docents, they'll show you where to queue up to enter the choir pews. It was completely magical.

One caveat: we tried to go on one day, only to discover there was an early closing due to some special visitors, and we just made it in time the next day. The hours are a bit quirky, to be sure.

Adele
