Once in London, can one buy tickets ahead of time...for example, show up on a Monday to buy tickets for Thursday (entry and Vergers)

CAPH52 May 15th, 2009 07:46 AM

Good advice, Feldie. Thank you!

Feldie May 15th, 2009 08:27 AM

Thanks Caph, but it's a question, not a suggestion - I forgot to add the '?'! We aren't going to be there until next month and I'm trying to 'bust' as many queues as I can.

CAPH52 May 15th, 2009 09:55 AM

I'm so sorry, Feldie. For the second time in the past couple of weeks, I have to ask whether it's possible to develop dyslexia in your old age! ;) I obviously read it as "one can" instead of "can one". :-D

Hope someone pops in with an answer!

My sister got through to the Abbey and they told her that I could not book a week out-- I should call, instead, the day before and put my name on the list for the verger's tour.

Thank you for that information, ekscrunchy. We aren't going until August, so if I can't call until the day before, it's one less thing to obsess about right now!

We plan to go on Monday, so if we can't get the verger tour, we have London Walks as a fallback.

Ah foof. Thanks ekscrunchy. Better than nothing! There is also the audio guides, I suppose.

I just got back an email confirming ekscrunchy's sister's info.

FWIW - we bought our Verger tickets the day before and had no problems. We were in the area and decided to do some "advance" planning. Maybe we were just lucky but we were also very flexible about the time.

Hope you have a great trip CAPH!

CAPH52 May 19th, 2009 06:46 AM

Thanks, dfr! Both for the info and for the good wishes!

ekscrunchy May 19th, 2009 07:29 AM

I just want to report that we took the 11am Verger's tour today and it is wonderful! I had forgotten to call yesterday to put our names on the list, so we showed up today at 9:30am opening time and there was no queue and no problem putting our names on the list for the 11am tour. The tour costs an extra 3 pounds each and takes about 90 minutes.

CAPH52 May 19th, 2009 07:40 AM

Thanks very much for that report, ekscrunchy! Good info to have.

Iowa_Redhead May 19th, 2009 09:43 AM

Good to know you enjoyed the tour :)
