Westfjords in May-What do you think?

Jump to last reply

We've had a change in plans and decided to try to visit the Westfjords during our trip in May of 2009. Guidebooks and postings seem to either ignore the area or warn off making the trip due to relatively poor road quality. It just seems too appealing to miss.

We intend to take the ferry from Stykkisholmur (after an overnight on the Snaefellsness Penisula) to Brjanslaekur and spent a night in Bredavik. Driving from Bredavik to Isafjordur for an overnight there. My question is where to overnight on our way from Isafjordur to Lake Myvatn. Any suggestions on memorable places for a stopover? I realize the drive is a long one!

If you have any other bits and pieces you would like to share, I'd be most grateful! Here is where we intend to stop:

Snaefellsness
Bredavik
Isafjordur
???
Myvatn (2 nights)
Seydisfjordur
Hofn
Hella (2 nights)

Many thanks!
