Western Ireland in March w/kids
 

Hi, I'd love some itinerary suggestions for Western Ireland in March with 2 children, aged 10 and 12. We are renting a self catering cottage on Lake Corrib for 7 days, then we'll spend 2 days in Dublin before departing. When I was in Ireland in 2000 with just my spouse, we really fell in love with Galway City, but looking at many of the travel books and sites, it seems a lot of attractions suitable for children may be closed at that time of year. We'd really love for them to have a magical experience and to learn as much as they can, but we don't want to overwhelm them, or ourselves, with to much traveling to and fro. Does anyone have any ideas?

I too have been researching for a trip to Ireland in March with our two kids. Ours are older though, 16 and 20. However, one thing I've learned that may be of interest to you is that Bunratty Castle has banquests all year round and you can take kids. Go to www.shannonheritage.com and click on evening entertainments. Would really like to do the one in Galway with our kids but they're not open that time of year.

I should have added that the folk park at Bunratty would probably be good for kids the ages of yours.

Kids will like Bunratty. I have been going since I was a kid in the 70's and there was no farm or banquets. It was always a nice stop over when we went to see family. I have oictures now that seem so strange as it was pretty empty in the area at the time and had lovely views to the Shannon. Progress! It's probably more fun now for kids :-).
