Western Ireland - Best Scenery
Mid August with car. What are the must sees in terms of scenery?
Secondary, but also advice please, must do / sees with regards to history, and culture? Thank you. |
Wow, this is a tough one. Why? Simply because almost the entire western side of Ireland is beautiful and has a variety of landscapes/seascapes. This is pretty much true for the entire country, not just the west.
Ring of Kerry, Ring of Dingle, Killarney National Park, Cliffs of Moher, Burrens, Galway and much more. And if driving, this makes it very easy to see them all- depending on your amount of time on the ground. When calculating driving times, figure an average speed of between 30-35 mph. dave |
I agree with all of the above and will add the Gap of Dunloe.

couldn't help to respond to this one...
western ireland looks all the same. and that's a good thing ;-) agree with daveesl, every corner you turn in ireland is better "scenery" than the last. |
Also: Malin Head, Slieve League

Also agree with above posts, but will add that the Dingle Peninsula, Slea Head Drive, was our favorite part of Ireland. Here's some photos:

Your right, the west of Ireland is a beautiful place Connemare possible the most, I spent some time there when I was younger and some people may left there heart in San Francisco I left some of my heart on Connemara on the sky road. The only place more beautiful and awe-inspiring is the Mountains of Mourne, which really do sweep down to the sea. When in Clifden stay at the Rock Glen Hotel or Dolphin Beach B&B and in the Mourne Mountains Stay at the Glassdrumman Lodge. No trip to Ireland can be complete without seeing both.

These photos might give you some ideas. I think that most are geo-tagged. Most of our tour was along the western coast.

Dingle Peninsula is definitely must see. I'm thinking that one year ago today I landed in Shannon and had 3 fab weeks from Dingle to Cork and look forward to my next adventure there.
