West Highland Way

Has anyone hiked the West Highland Way in late September? Just wondering about the midges at this time of year. Also, are there lots of places to stop for lunch along the way? Whats the average temp?

Thanks.

Midges shouldn't be a problem that late.

"Also, are there lots of places to stop for lunch along the way? " . . . uh -- nope. The chances of being near civilization at lunch time would be remote. This is very rural country. Some villages and hamlets are many miles apart. You should be prepared carrying at least 1 or 2 day's food and restocking every chance you get. This reddit post gives a good idea of stopping places along the route https://www.reddit.com/r/WestHighlan...fes/?rdt=32823

And do note the responses which add useful context.

"Average temp?" There is lots of historic weather information easily found on line. Unfortunately 'averages' really don't help much. Weather can be VERY changeable. Just be prepared for wet and nice to bitter.

Uk weather, especially the west coast varies a lot.

Midges are not a problem above 6mph

There are midge warning apps available

The website is superb for this route, showing places to stay, eat etc etc

Their guidebook and map are recommended to buy.

My niece and her partner walked it a couple of years ago and loved it.
