West from Wexford to Killorglin

We are picking up a car in Wexford and having three nights on the road between there and our house rental in Killorglin, Co. Kerry.

Can anyone recommend a town outside Wexford for our first night? We are hoping to spend the next two nights at Kinsale, but need a place that is fairly easy to travel to after getting the car in the afternoon (coming off a canal boat and busing to Wexford that day).

Thanks,
Alison

Youghal is a pretty little village in county Cork. It's just under 2 hours drive from Wexford town. There's a lovely hotel & seafood restaurant there called Aherne's. The area around Youghal is lovely for walking and there are gorgeous beaches and pretty villages. There's a really nice pottery place (Stephen Pearce) and the famous Ballymaloe Cookery School is nearby (they have a lovely restaurant there too). You could also go to Middleton and visit the Jameson distillery.

Killorglin is about 2 and a half hours from Youghal.

There's a great pub and restaurant in Youghal called The Red Store. It's newer and very modern. We ate in the restaurant last year (at about this time, too. :-s Sniffle!) and loved it!

I second the vote for Youghal.

Cheers,

Wendy

Thanks for the recommendation! Is that town between Wexford and Kinsale (we want a couple of nights in Kinsale before Killorglin).
Thanks again.

Yes, it's between Wexford and Kinsale. Kinsale is just over an hours drive from Youghal.
