Wengen to Maggiore by train--questions

We plan to go via train from wengen to maggiore on Sept 8th.
the route i found on https://www.sbb.ch/ticketshop is
Via Lauterbrunnen - Interlaken Ost - Spiez
Thu, 08.09.16, 12:03 - 15:38 Hour
Duration: 03:35, 3x Change(s)

Is it a beautiful route? many tunnels? is there an alternative route you prefer?

We will be going via train from Zurich to Wengen; use the mountain trains around Wengen; and then a train to Stresa. Any suggestions on what swiss train pass to get?

thank you!

There are two routes to Wengen from Zürich.

You can go thru Bern or thru Luzern.

I would suggest Luzern as the more scenic route. I like passing by Lungern with its pretty church steeple.

I always buy a Half-Fare Card in the Flughafen Zürich train station. It is good for 30 days.

I have never been to Lake Maggiore.

You didn't tgell as WHERE you want to go on Lake Maggiore. But according to the timetable you gave us, it sesems that your destination will be Stresa.
The train you mentioned crosses the Alps in 2 tunnels of 25 resp 15 miles of length.
For more scenic itineraries, you have to go OVER the alpine passes, but it will take almost the whole day.

I can make some proposals in the case you should be interested in.
