Wengen, Muerren or Gimmelwald
Could someone recommend a pension type of family run place to stay in Wengen, Muerren or Gimmelwald? Plan to be there in the last part of June.

C

We really liked the Hotel Alpenrose. Nice owners, great food, awesome view. They have a huge lounge area for reading and getting to know other travellers. Have a fabulous time.

We stayed at Hotel Alpenblick in Muerren in early June 2000 and were very pleased. Heidi and Franz are wonderful. Great views across the valley. The train (2 cars)runs right in front of the hotel but it was not a problem. Price was 134 SF/night for a double with a nice breakfast. Reply if questions.

Oops, forgot to mention that the Hotel Alpenrose is in Wengen. Sorry about that.

We loved the Alpenrose as well for the same reasons that Gina stated.

Hotel Gletschergarten in Grindelwald. Book a suite on the top floor for lots of room, this is a simple and traditional chalet hotel, and the view from the terrace is jaw-dropping, full on mountain and glacier. Nice family, in town location for wondering to the shops at night and going out for a beer before dinner. About a 10 minute walk or a 3 minute bus ride to the train station. As said before, I think Wengen and Muerren are both car free, high up on the mountain however but quite far apart and far apart from Grindelwald.

I just decided to stay in the Hotel Regina in Wengen (August). I found it on www.karenbrown.com

The Alpenrose is mentioned there too.

Has anyone ever stayed at Hotel Regina? Is it nice?
|
I haven't stayed at the Regina but I have been given a tour of the hotel. Very nice. I'm sure you'll like it.

We'll be in Wengen in June for the fifth time. It will be our third stay at the Alpenrose. We love that hotel. The owners are so friendly, the food wonderful, the rooms comfy, the view spectacular.

Whole-heartily recommend the Hotel Alpenblick in Murren and Murren! We thoroughly enjoyed our time there and are counting the days until we can return. The hotel is lovely and the owners are wonderful!

I'm sure we are really the exception but we were in Muerren last July for 5 days. It was absolutely gorgeous and we loved Hotel Alpenblick....but after 2 nights we left. We were bored stiff. Unless you're into hiking and mountain climbing, it may not be for you. We went down to Interlaken and liked it much better. There are nicer restaurants, boat trips, more day trip options, even a local casino with a folklore show...just much better for us! We spent the remaining time (3 nights)there and it was much better suited for us. In Muerren, the town folds at 6 pm. Like I said though, it was beautiful and we thouroughly enjoyed our view. We're in our 50's so it's not like we're the disco king and queen....we just missed some civilization. Craig Turner
