Wellies in Paris?
 

Generally I hate these questions --but we are in Paris at the end of the month and having been there in the winter before I know there is generally a little bit of rain every day.

Do people in Paris wear Wellies? If i'm going to stand out like the Morton's Salt Girl I don't want to bring them - they take up too much room.

However if people are wearing them, mine are comfy and waterproof...

No - absolutely not. You're in a city - not clomping around a farmyard.

You're likely to run into a little light rain - not acres of soggy mud. Just be sure you have comfy and waterproof walking shoes or booties.

Think of it as nature's way of telling you to drop into another café.

Is this nature's way of spotting American tourists?

Outside of Venice I can't think of a European city where wellies would be needed

American tourists? These are British, aren't they, the queen wears them around her estates all the time. IN fact, they are rather rare in the US, I've never seen anyone wear them in cities.

No I've never seen anyone wear wellies in Paris, except at the music festival at St Cloud in the summer.

Just take decent, comfortable shoes that can stand a bit of rain and the occasional puddle.
You can always take (or buy) a can of waterproofing spray and treat your shoes every night if you are really worried about wet feet.

What I found very useful in Venice was a pair of Rockport waterproof boots, which can look quite nice. Try something like that, which looks like normal footwear (although I'm sure it wouldn't pass muster with high-level fashionistas).

Not unless you're planning to hunt or fish.

Here in America, women have taken to wear them as regular footwear, of all things.

I've seen some teens wear them around here in the burbs of bham, and IMO they are the only age group that can pull that look off without looking odd.

When we were in Paris in November it was rainy and cold and I did spot alot of boots, especially those Ugg types and of course stiletto heeled ones that those fabulous french women glide around town in.;;)

I have only seen one pair of wellies here in Paris, and they weren't even on someone's feet! They were a bright red pair at the department store and everyone was staring, before moving on to the Repetto stand! I never really notice, you know, a lot of standing water or anything. Normal shoes are fine, as long as they're not white and tennies ;)

To clear up the confusion, I am American (the wellies are British) and in NYC wellies are brought out every time it sprinkles. It's like a wellie parade lately.
