Weird trip - more time in A&E than sightseeing

Not going to do a full blown TR but I'm siting in the lounge at DFW still with one more leg before home and thought I'd post a quick and dirty.

This was a quick 1 week in / out arrived last tues. and flying home today.

Had two terrific 'mini GTG's' - one with flanneruk in Oxford and one with PatrickLondon at St Martin's in the field, visited the Hockney at Tate Britain, saw Pirates of Penzance, had a lovey dinner at the Whistler @ Tate Britain . . . And spend 6 hours at st Thomas's hospital on Saturday and one hour at a walk in clinic in Lambeth/southwell on Sunday.

On the mend but that sure cut into my fun time . . .

Stayed at the Randolph in Oxford and in Dolphin square in pimlico, both were great.

But now all I want is to get home to my own bed with the stupid cat sleeping on my feet :)

Oh to translate for the non- Brits . . . A&E = emergency room.

gailscout Mar 20th, 2017 01:24 PM

Glad you are on the mend! I met up with welltravbrit in NYC for a walk on the Highline recently.

Morgana Mar 20th, 2017 01:44 PM

Oh bless you, hope you are feeling better. Always extra tough to be poorly when away from home.
Nowhere like your own bed!

Gardyloo Mar 20th, 2017 01:53 PM

Well that sure sucks. Welcome home, I guess.

What a strange idea to visit Hospitals.
Do you want Fodors to open a new forum ?
Cats are great company when forced into immobility.
Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Ps : you got a TR at the hospital ?
For non French TR is. Argh. Forget.

Welcome home. Getting home always feels good, but when you've been sick or injured, it's such a relief to be home. My best wishes for a speedy recovery!

sorry you had to spend so much time in the A&E dept, JJ.

hope you're all better now and that it didn't cast too much of a pall over your trip.

ayemimi2007 Mar 20th, 2017 02:20 PM

Answer only if you chose to, but just curious: All this due to an injury, like a fall, twisted ankle, or such...or some sort of nasty virus/bug?
Any charge for hospital services, since you are a visitor from USA and not a resident of the UK?

historytraveler Mar 20th, 2017 03:11 PM

And why did you have to do the A&E ? Yes, a real bummer but hope all is good now.
I remember you saying the Randolph was on your bucket list. I've stayed there numerous times and booked there again this June. I have stayed at various other places in Oxford, but I keep returning to the Randolph.

thursdaysd Mar 20th, 2017 03:22 PM

Wow, so sorry to read this. Hope you are feeling better!

historytraveler Mar 20th, 2017 03:44 PM

I meant to ask what on your itinerary did you have to sacrifice for an unwanted experience at St. Thomas' ?

nukesafe Mar 20th, 2017 04:15 PM

Are you going to write a review of the A&E for TA? :-)

irishface Mar 20th, 2017 04:35 PM

Sorry that your trip was difficult due to time spent in A&E. Hope that you had a happy reunion with kitty. You are so right when you say that there is nothing like a cat snuggle to make you feel better.

europeannovice Mar 20th, 2017 07:07 PM

Sorry to hear that you spent time in the A&E. Was it your ankle again? I seem to recall you had some difficulty on a previous trip or was it an illness? On our first trip to the UK we took DS to the A&E when he came down with a bout of food poisoning.

Welcome home and hoping to hear the good parts of the trip as well.

Janis, I hope between them they worked out what it all was and how to put it right. St Thomas's is where MPs are taken in medical emergencies, so you should have been in good hands....

bilboburgler Mar 21st, 2017 04:54 AM

Oops, any news you care to share?

Tulips Mar 21st, 2017 05:03 AM

Dolphin Square - haven't been there in ages. How was it?
Sorry to hear about your problems!

FuryFluffy Mar 21st, 2017 06:37 AM

Wish you a quick recovery, Janis. I thought you had found some superb clothing shops named A&E which beats H&M and C&A.

pavot Mar 21st, 2017 08:41 AM

Poor you! I hope you feel better soon.

We are firm believers in The Healing Power of Cats at our house.

More power to you....
