Weird posts tonight

What the heck were those posts trying to accomplish?

janisj Jul 9th, 2015 11:02 PM

They have been happening every night for about a week -- On several forums -- by MANY different screen names.

It is obvious the Fodors website is under a concerted attack -- there have been hundreds . . .

(a) demonstrating that whoever's contracted to do the spamming has posted n number of links
(b) vaguely hoping that someone will click on one or other of them, whatever may be on the other end of them.

There is little or no cost to spamming apparently pointlessly (as opposed to trying to target it) - sooner or later there will be one gain that makes up for it.

You mean those threads with title including Korean letters?

kappa1 Jul 10th, 2015 02:05 AM

There are 2 more of them just posted now ( by "lov").

nytraveler Jul 10th, 2015 03:14 AM

They have been happening everyday this week - just a disguise to get their web site listed hidden in the Korean message.

I don't know why the posting system can't be set so that all posts in alphabets other than Latin be diverted for someone to review before posting.

I was up extra late last night...hadn't seen them before. Some people have WAAAYYY too much time on their hands.

janisj Jul 10th, 2015 05:52 PM

They are starting earlier tonight >:O

Fodors really do need to block these posts. Out of the top 50 posts that my browser is set to show, 31 were of the dodgy Korean type. That means that 31 posts from travellers were pushed way down the list and might miss an answer.

sparkchaser Jul 11th, 2015 01:31 AM

The mods need to get off their butts and start deleting those posts with extreme prejudice.

progol Jul 11th, 2015 02:27 AM

40 in the first 3 pages! I hope thatFodors can figure out a way to block these posts soon - it's no fun sorting through them to get to the regular posts, and the spam definitely seems to be increasing.

AJPeabody Jul 11th, 2015 03:37 AM

They are in Korean. For the time being, block all posts from Korea, if it turns out these are coming from a Korean ISP or internet address.

I used Google Translate: They seem to be about some online casino.

bit of a waste of time given the number of people here who speak korean.

Huggy Jul 11th, 2015 04:15 AM

I believe it to be a concerted effort to open the N. Korea tourism market.

mamcalice Jul 11th, 2015 04:52 AM

Where are the moderators? If they can't find a way to block these posts, at the very least, they could delete them!

Excellent !!!

flpab Jul 11th, 2015 05:48 AM

top ten things not to miss in North Korea.

Huggy Jul 12th, 2015 03:40 AM

This mornings weird post consists of the train schedules from Pyongyang, N. Korea to Athens.

bilboburgler Jul 12th, 2015 03:45 AM

"top ten things not to miss in North Korea."

all a bit distasteful given their policy on execution.
