weinerschnitzel and red cabbage in Munich
So I want to be sure I am able to get my favorite German food in Munich, which happens to be weinerschnitzel and red cabbage. Am I going to be disappointed, or is it everywhere?

Wiener Schnitzel is more or less on every menu. Just the combination with red cabbage is a bit odd. The traditional side dish is potato salad. But you can ask to replace it.
By the way, 'real' Wiener Schnitzel is veal. The cheaper (pork) variation has to be called 'Schnitzel Wiener Art' ( |
Agree with Cowboy 1968: Wienerschnitzel with red cabbage is a revolting combination.
Either have red cabbage - preferably with braised beef, venison, deer or even a pork roast or have a Wienerschnitzel, but don't have a Wienerschnitzel with red cabbage. It doesn't go together. |
Of course it "goes together" unless you are a food snob LOL

Wiener Schnitzel with anything is a revolting combination -- a waste of veal. |
I've never ever had or seen the combination of Schnitzel and red cabbage in Germany in all those 42 years of my life. Sounds weird indeed.

Some dishes just do not go well together, and Wiener Schnitzel and red cabbage would be right up there for most fans of German foods. But people do have varying tastes, and varying taste buds as well. So if it's what you like, give it a go.

Wiener Schnitzel is never served with red cabbage....however, I often hold the potatoes and order red cabbage instead - as I get tired of constant piles of kartoffeln/erdäpfeln...even though I'm Irish.
I'm convinced that the Germans and the Austrians eat much more potato than the Irish. |
