Weekend in Southern Germany

Single guy going on business to Southern Germany and have Friday noon through Sunday night to "go somewhere" and just absorb the sights. I like to ski but do only once a year - so, would like to visit areas with snow and sit and relax and have a brew with local folks. I'm really looking to stay at a bed and breakfast for a night or two in Austria or Switzerland. Any suggestions - I'm leaving soon --- thank you and "ish forstean ein bitten Deutsch" (sp?).

Assuming you are near Munich, I would recommend Garmish-Partenkirchen, about 1 hour's drive south. It's a winter (and summer) resort area with skiing on the Zugspitz (I have not idea what the snow conditions are this year.) Though not a B&B, Fraundofer's Gast House would probably suit you well. Even if you don't stay in their lodging (which I have never done -- but my wife and I are older than you and have different housing requirements) go for dinner. The hospitality is excellent. Also, lots of interesting sites within a couple of hours drive or less.

Don - you may understand German, but your spelling is awful! In all seriousness you should have a wonderful time. My suggestions would be either Berchtesgarten, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, or Innsbruck - all within around 2 hours from Munich and easy to reach by train or car. Have fun - though I hear the snow has been a little sparse this year. Hopefully the recent storms have brought some needed snow to the Alps.
