Weekend in Paris hotel deal
 

Another hotel question. End of May, my husband and I are taking my mom to Paris for a long weekend--3 nights in total. Because we're paying for two rooms, we're looking for the best deal, yet still with that Parisian charm. I've been searching, searching and reading on here, but my shortlist of hotels has not been mentioned on this forum. What I've come up with is the Wilson Hotel or Hotel Romance Malesherbes..both budget hotels, the latter appearing to be the nicer of the two. I'd love to splurge on mom and provide her with the most beautiful suite, but that's not in the cards I'm afraid. Anyone out there know about these two hotels in particular, or if there's a gem still to be had that provides convenience, charm and value all in one? Thanks for any help.

I'm not familiar with those hotels, but the Malesherbes looks okay to me. What are you expecting to pay for that? I see rates around 110 euro.

I stayed there last summer and really liked it. It is very charming and pleasant, with good service, and it's in a more convenient area than where the Malesherbes is located. Their doubles are around 120 euro, I guess. I just had a regular double and the room was huge, no need whatsoever for a suite for a single person. Their rooms have minibars, also. They do have suites, of course, but they cost a lot more.

Thanks Christina, for your quick reply. The hotel looks lovely and the price looks right. The only thing is, it appears you have to make a reservation without knowing whether or not they have vacancies. I don't see any other method of reserving. I will give it serious thought.

You can reserve online. The hotel is in the Latin Quarter, close to the river and Saint Michel train station. We have not stayed there yet, so I cannot comment on how good or bad it is! I did find a lot of favorable reviews online, however. It doesn't look or sound deluxe, but hopefully it will be clean and offer a good location.

If you don't see an online reservation option on a hotel site, it just means you have to call or email to inquire about rates/availability (use their email address or main phone number). Then if there's a room free and you want it, you can send your info and make the reservation. If there's a hotel you really like, I would recommend you try contacting them!

Thanks MsInformation. I've already been contacting some hotels in the meantime, and have just received my first 'refusal'...no room at the inn!. That was Hotel St Jacques, also highly recommended, so it's no wonder there's no vacancies. I've also sent a reservation request to HOtel Langlois and the Bonaparte. I've yet to hear from them. I'll look up your suggestion, as it can't hurt to have as many alternatives as possible.

As far as where we'd like to stay, I don't have a preference, so long as it's a nice area, convenient and charming. We were in France a few years back and stayed in the St Germaine district---loved it, but the hotel we were in is out of our league because we need to book two rooms.

YOu don't have to make a reservation without knowing if they have vacancies. I never do that.

They have contact info on their website (phone, FAX, email address). All you have to do is write them and ask if they have vacancies on your dates, and what the rates are. Then you can reserve by email. That's what I did (but I do write in French, however, they have people working at the desk who know English very well, if that's a problem). I don't ever use automated systems for reserving (well, hardly ever).

I guess I was a little quick on reading the conditions about reservations! Oh well, alls well that ends well. I ended up getting two rooms at St Jacques after all. I had to raise the room standard slightly, but I'm pleased. It was an automatic approval, however. Christina, have you had a problem with this system before?

I'm so looking forward to going and especially showing my mom a good time. Will definitely let Fodorites know the outcome.
