Weekend in Munich

Will be in Munich December 7 and staying over a weekend as part of a business trip. Have not spent much time there and don't know much about the area. Looking for nice people to help me out with suggestions of things to do in the city. Not big on art museums, but just about anything else would be open to.

Day trips?

Skiing?

You could go to the residenz or Nymphenberg palace. The view from the towers at the Frauenkirche and Alte St. Peter's church are great. Take a day trip to Friesen to tour the brewery there. Drink beer.

There are so many options.

Skiing is currently possible, but maybe until 7 Dec the weather has warmed up again.

You can make endless daytrips into each direction. One daytrip could be a castle tour (Neuschwanstein, Linderhof..).

In München, I suggest the Deutsches Museum. It focuses on technology and is a highlight.

You can visit the BMW plant.

There are the beerhalls.

And, and, and.

My tip: Look into a guidebook first, and then ask more specific questions here in this forum.

There's lots of good information from Fodor's web site. Check out: http://www.fodors.com/world/europe/g...ure_30001.html

The Christmas Markets in Munich are great and should keep you busy for a weekend.

The Deutsches Museum (Technology Museum) is great if you want to go to a musueum.
The Hofbrau Haus has a Bavarian Evening (slap dancing) show at 7pm each night. You might want to get your hotel to make reservations for you because it can fill up with tour bus crowds.
The standard day-trip is to Fussen to see Neuschwanstein. You can do it on your own or check with Panorama Tours for a bus tour that includes roundtrip and a tour of the castle.
Another good day-trip from Munich is Salzburg.
Munich has a bunch of Christmas markets including the big one at Marienplatz and the nativity market a block away.
Nymphenberg Palace is interesting but don't miss the carriage house there with all the cinderella coaches.
The Residence is not on the top of my list but the crown jewels of the Wittelsbach family are worth seeing there.
Experience one or more beer halls. For great Bavarian food go to the Augustiner a couple of blocks toward the train station from Marienplatz in the fussganger zone.
There are other guided tours on bikes and busses to see things like Nazi sites, etc.
Dachau is a memorable experience on the edge of Munich.
Enjoy your trip!
