Week-long place to park a car in Florence?

We will be in Florence in May for one week. We'll be arriving with a car but won't need it until we leave again. We'll be staying not far from Santa Croce and parking is not provided. Any suggestions for safe and relatively inexpesive parking for the week? (It doesn't have to be nearby and can even be on the outskirts.) Thanks for your suggestions.

Assuming it is a rental car, wouldn't it save a lot of money for the rental and for parking to drop the car and pick up another when you leave?

Actually, it's a long term lease and works out cheaper to keep the darn thing ;-)

I figured that might be it..OK, so now that the "big" question that was haunting all of us is out of the way...I'll top this in hopes that someone who has THE answer to your original question will post a reply..wish I were the one but I never drive in Italy.

Why do you have to stay IN Florence?
You can stay just outside town, use your car, and save money with a weekly rental apt.

Found a list of parking garages in Florence. Maybe it will help:

Thanks for the parking garage list - that was just what I was looking for; and discovered yet another great website about Florence!

Bob - I lucked into some great timeshare exchanges to Italy for this trip, including a loft studio apartment around the corner from Santa Croce

I will be in Florence proper only two nights so I looked for parking also. Best Western Hotel Adriatico had free parking so I choose that hotel. Has anyone ever heard of it?

dianeg, be sure to try the gelato at Vivoli, since you'll be right there. In all my trips to Florence I somehow never got there until last week, and I agree with those who say it's the best in Italy.

dianeg, be sure to try the gelato at Vivoli, since it's right there in your neighborhood. I had it for the first time last week and agree with those who think it's the best ever.

When parking your car in Florence, make sure they are not also charge a valet fee. When we parked our car at the Grand Hotel, the cost was 25 euros PLUS 10 euros for valet (found this out at checkout, after we were tipping the valet guy 5 euros every time he brought us the car). Another ripoff....

There is relatively inexpensive long-term parking at the airport and the taxi ride is quick & cheap.
