week layover in France

couldn't get a connecting flight back to the States after a 3 week visit to India, so we "have" to stop in France for a week in early April. We are thinking of renting an apartment somewhere and exploring the area by car. We have never been to Corsica -any thoughts? Or possibly the South of France. This is all rather last-minute as we leave for India in 4 weeks, so would appreciate any help... :-)

Provence would be a good choice. Gites are quite reasonable in March.

Paris would be a good choice also

thanks.... we have been to Paris several times, and were sort of thinking of a place to rest after 3 hectic weeks in India. Would Provence still be pretty cool in early April? where would I find information on renting a gite??

You may want soom cool after India

Just about everywhere in France will be cool then. Perhaps Sicily would be warmer, but that's a long way from France

No place in Europe will be truly warm in early April - so if temps are important to you it will be a bit of a problem.

Anyplace can be cool/cold/warm-ish (or all three) at that time of year. Provence would be a GREAT place to unwind after India.

I have heard so much about le mistral in Provence. What about that at this time of year? We experienced the tremontaine (which is similar)in Feb. in the Coullioure area and it wasn't particularly pleasant. In fact, I think I caught a newscast saying that the TGV wasn't running due to the wind.
