Week end in London
I am planning to spend a week-end in London on the 24th and 25th october. Hasn't been in this city for more than 25 years. Need recommendations about restaurants and anyting special to see, hear or experience like a special event.

sort of hard since all we know about you is you are over 25.
London is FULL of special events/sites/restaurants. What sorts of events -- shows, gallery/museum exhibits? Pop concerts, Classical, dance? What kinds of sites do you enjoy? What sorts of cuisine? Restaurant budget? Give us some details and we can help. |
For restaurants and calendar of events try www.timeout.co.uk, it's the online version of the weekly magazine there.

If you're interested in seeing a West End show, Jersey Boys is terrific. I really enjoyed my ride on the London Eye and walking around Covent Garden.

Sunday in Camden Town is busy and worth a look. Either go there by narrowboat from Little Venice or tube it there and come back by boat. There is a lovely resturant situated on the bridge above the canal on Little Venice (just where the boats take their first entrance along the canal to Camden Town).

You might like the Photographer's Gallery (if not a bit of a busman's holiday), which was always a favourite of mine - small but free gallery with rapidly changing exhibitions on very diverse subject matter. One exhibition I saw some time ago was of belle epoque Paris - apparantly the pictures were used as the basis for the sets in Moulin Rouge, right down to the gateway to Monmatre that looked like a snarling mouth. It always had a great gift shop and cafe. Used to be near Leicester Sq tube, but may have moved now (Oxford St?). One dire location to another.....
V&A also has interesting photographic exhibtions. If you are talking about taking pictures rather than viewing them, how about somewhere a bit more unusal like Highgate Cemetery? Theatre-wise - 'Speaking in Tongues' is now on - great cast (John Simm, Ian Hart, Kerry Fox) - a nice change from the endless musicals. I am hoping to get to see this myself.... |
Montmartre, even.....
