Wedding Present
We will be traveling to the UK from the US to attend a wedding. Would like to give the couple something made in the US as a gift. They are in their 30's. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

For my wedding, I was given two lovely pieces of stained glass. One is of a Canadian lake (where i used to live) and I thought this was a lovely and I really treasure it. It was a very personal gift and something I could not get here.
What are your couple's tastes? |
That's a good question because so little is made in the US now. I don't know where you live, but you can get some really nice artisan made pottery. I have the same problem when we go visit our family. Even though most of the things in Disney aren't American made, sometimes people like things like Mickey and Minnie champagne glasses or something on that order. You can call the crystal shop in Lake Buena Vista and they'll ship it to you. Also, American wine.

I would visit an art/craft center and buy handmade pottery or a hand turned wood vessel/bowl or a weaving or blown glass. Something truly "made in the U.S." This is my standard wedding gift.

Depending on where you live, you might be able to find a high-priced American craft shop. There is one near Faneuil Hall in Boston, one in downtown Portland. The SF area has glass blowers in Emeryville and Benicia. The stuff is expensive but often of museum quality.

Thanks for your recommendations. I don't know the particular tastes of the couple. Would like to make it as "personal as possible". We are in NC and have some great potters here. Will explore that avenue and/or the art/craft design stores. Again thank you for taking the time out of your day to respond.

em, while "made" in America is a nice idea, keep in mind "sold" in America is also ok. For example, while there is a Tiffany in London, the blue box still makes a hit every time. Tiffany's plain wine glasses are always a good gift & go with any decor. If you don't know the couples' taste, be careful with decorative items.

Point well taken ....will check out the wine glasses. Thanks.
