Websites providing photos/"walks"/maps of neighborhoods

Many of us are familiar with the wonderful website of the pages jaunes, in which you're able to get a look at any neighborhood in Paris (and other French cities - Bordeaux, Lille, Lyon, Marseille, Nantes, Nice, strabourg & Toulouse):

http://www.pagesjaunes.fr/pj.cgi?

(You type in the street address and city, and it will link you to a photo of the building's facade. You can then use arrows to "walk" up and down the street, around the corner, etc.)

I recently found a similar site for Madrid and Barcelona, Spain:

http://fotos.qdq.com/

Does anyone know of sites like this for other European countries/cities? I love being able to "see" where I'll be staying before I book my hotels.

While you won't get quite the exact pinpointing that you can with Les Pages Jaunes, this site for Amsterdam is something on that order and it's very interesting:

http://www.channels.nl/

Great post! I believe there's one for Italy too but can't find the address. Anyone?

Quinty Jan 21st, 2003 07:38 PM

Wow! Mary C posted that in a response to one of my questions a little while ago. I haven't had the chance to check it out yet. I had no idea it was that cool!
It is so very hard to find good maps, etc. I'm sure this will be a very valuable tool.
Thanks again!

Jim -

Thanks for the reminder about the Channels site! I think I saw it when I was researching a London trip some time ago, and it had slipped my mind. The main Europe site is: http://www.europe.cx/

It's available for Amsterdam, Barcelona, Lisbon, London, and Paris.

There is a website for the Italian yellow pages, but no photos/maps, apparently:

http://paginegialle.virgilio.it/pg/index1.html
Lesli:

You might enjoy this website: http://www.basel.ch.

Near the top of the right side there is the link to the English site.

On the right sideboard you will find "enjoy the virtual city tour", a link to a succession of 360° panoramic views of slanes and neighbourhoods of the city, including access to certain buldings (museums, city hall etc.). the navigation is quite straightforward.

enjoy.

Phil.

These sites are great. Does anyone know of a similar site for Vienna? We're going there soon. Thanks.

Hey Quinty, you have to mess around with it a bit but Les Pages Jaunes is SO COOL! I give my eternal thanks to Elaine who told me about it in her now-famous Paris file. Like Elaine says, you can "walk" down the streets of Paris using this great tool.

I am so glad to see this thread. I have enjoyed the channels.nl alot. I didn't know there were other such sites. I'm interested in the Paris site. Many thanks, and thank goodness my password worked!

I just re-discovered this post and thought I'd top it... I remember first coming across it when we were planning our Barcelona trip. And now I am going to enjoy the Paris link as we plan our next trip!!
