Website with Phonetic Spelling?
Can someone please direct me to a website that will have not only the words in German and English but also the phonetic spelling?
Thanks! |
I do not know of any such website but the German language is phonetic and often sounds much like English. (English is largely based on German.) Get a basic German Language text or phrase book (Berlitz?) and it will have the phonetics.

I have a book, by Duden, Das Aussprachewörterbuch, which has the pronunciation of over 130,000 German words in the IPA. I don't know where something equivalent might be on the web.
My Langenscheidt dictionary also has pronunciations in IPA. |

See if there's anything here that you find useful:

Or how about this site that lets you hear the word pronounced correctly

www.dict.cc is an online dictionary that I sometimes use. It has voice recordings for its entries (a small speaker to the left of the entry, for both German and English). Try it out!

The nice thing about German is that the pronunciation rules are very straightforward (unlike English, which has a million-and-one "exceptions to the rule"), so once you get the basic pronunciations down, you will know (in theory) how to say anything!

Great resources and exactly what I needed. Thanks to all!
