What about Caen?
|
Caen is pronounced just as sans, "an" being one of the nasal sounds so you don't really hear "n" at the end.

thanks!

Just found this site which seems really useful if anyone is like me and came across this discussion in search of answers. http://www.slowtrav.com/france/language/place_names.htm

No silent s in Vallauris and Kerylos.

Google translate is great, I use it for my French homework. Put in the town name and there will be a little speaker at the bottom of the box and you can hear it pronounced.

Excellent information.

Google translate is good for current language but it is not always correct with towns (sorry Susan!). I've just tried Troyes which should be said as 3 (trois) but it is not. Reims is accurate though.
