Weblinks for Paris
Hello folks. After so much help on a trip two years ago to London and last year to Rome, Venice and Florence, I'm starting on Paris.
I've checked out a bunch of books and am studying away. I'm looking for good Paris related weblinks. Information on walking tours, on hours for the sites, printable maps, subway maps and so on. In particular, I'd like to find some websites that detail sites like Notre Dame and Sainte Chapelle (sp?). I could type up all the notes from the books that talk about the windows or architecture, but it'd be easier to just print it out and take it with me. I don't need any links on lodging at this time, but everything else is welcome. Any help is appreciated. |
Here are some of my favorites to get you started
Museum pass-www.intermusees.com For all things Paris: http://www.paris.org Paris travelogues www.bonjourparis.com (some free, some only if you pay a fee) Monthly update on Paris and France www.francemonthly.com Guided walks in English http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/pariswalking/ Restaurant reservations http://www.reservethebest.com/anglai...estaurants.php Train/metro schedules www.sncf.com www.ratp.fr |
I've enjoyed this website and gotten a good bit of info. I also like bparis.com (bonjourparis) as mentioned above.

If you e mail me I can send you a long note that I keep on Paris for children, which gives web sites for many attractions

Ben,
Thanks for the offer but we don't have children yet. Does your note cover adult stuff as well? |

In addition to the guided walking tours offered by Paris Walks, which Kristi already mentioned (some of which I've taken, and can recommend), you might also be interested in websites that provide directions for self-guided walking tours of Paris. For example:
http://www.paris-eiffel-tower-news.c...mard-land.html (buildings designed by Hector Guimard) http://www.paris.org/Kiosque/apr01/art.nouveau.html (Art Nouveau in the 16th - similar to the above walk) http://www.fodors.com/forums/pgMessa...=4&start=0 (a walk through Paris passages, compiled by our very own Degas, with valuable comments by other Fodorites) Printable Metro, RER, and bus maps can all be found at http://www.ratp.fr/ParisVisite/Eng/index.htm |

For street addresses:
http://wgd.pagesjaunes.fr/pj.cgi?lang=en Bridges & fountains: http://www.pariswater.com/ Louvre Museum: http://www.compuserve.com/wrap/linke...fr/louvrea.htm Rodin Museum: http://www.musee-rodin.fr/welcome.htm Paris Tourist Bureau: http://www.parisbienvenue.com Hope I haven't duplicated any sites. Have a wonderful time planning and most of all on your trip! |
SuzieC, I don't think you should promote that particular site here - they want you to pay for information. It really isn't " 'triffic " it takes (sometimes dated) random thoughts from many sources and strings them together.
mdtravel, another one you might want to try is: http://www.paris-touristoffice.com/index_va.html Enjoy your trip |

There's a lot of good information about Sainte Chapelle (which you mentioned as something you're particularly interested in) at:

This is awesome! Thanks everyone. I have started a thread on another board. This one lets me edit the original post for a little better organization. If you want to look at some of the contributions on that board or just link directly to it, here is that link:

HI
here are some more, I haven't edited for duplications I have a very long Paris file, if you'd like to see it, email me at [email protected] First, a great service, set up by France Telecom, which will show you any street address located within Paris city limits. Go to http://wge.pagesjaunes.fr/pj.cgi?lang=en www.paris-anglo.com excellent site, many suggestions for sightseeing, daytrips, shopping, etc including special activities for English-speakers www.webscapades.com/france/paris/paris.htm limited hotel selection, good descriptions of arrondissements (districts) and neighborhoods A small selection of "insiders' " shops, hotels and restaurants: http://www.nytimes.com/library/magaz...tra-paris.html www.wfi.fr/metropole/1999/414/414oldie.html an article and pics of the oldest houses in Paris http://www.paris-menus.com/en/parismenus.htm restaurants by theme, atmosphere, and price http://www.gourmetsociety.com/list/view.php3 restaurants in Paris by theme http://www.epicurious.com/erg/paris/auberge.html restaurants in Paris http://www.elegant-lifestyle.com/paris_restaurants.htm top restaurants in Paris the following were just shared with me recently drinking fountains in Paris: www.multimania.com/savoy/instal.html and http://www.paris.org/Kiosque/may03/g...chard.wallace/ and http://www.atkielski.com/inlink.php?...tainSmall.html www.writing.org Click on "Durant Imboden" and then on "Europe for Visitors" . Much good info on Paris info (in French) on Paris's churches: http://www.pariserve.tm.fr/quartier/egl.htm www.francekeys.com / commercial site but links to lots of free info including passports, currency, French language practice on line, smaller Paris museums, email cards, book sightseeing and excursions, etc http://www.ga/tes96.com/cam/Europe/F...ml?travel.html links to hotels, restaurants, sightseeing |
I would add www.mappy.com (similar to "pagesjaunes" site, but has feature that lets you put in an address get a map of it and find Gault Milau restaurants near it, with reviews of them, post offices near it, newstands near it and other similar features) and www.timeout.com (which is the site of a guidebook series but has a feature with current things going on in Paris and links to other sites too. Have a wonderful trip.

Bump.
How about a few links for bars or nice places to unwind in the evening with a cocktail? |
Any good links for common French phrases?
|
I'm going to bump this just because of the sheer number of links I have gathered and placed here:
http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...ML/000196.html I have to say, the number is daunting but extremely useful. |
