Web page on our trip to Bordeaux and Dordogne
I have posted the web page about our recent trip (May) to Bordeaux and the Dordogne.
Here is the URL: http://www.travel.stv77.com/bordeaux/bordeaux.htm Hope you enjoy it.... |
Thanks. This has given me some good ideas for our trip next September. We have four days and five nights planned in Sarlat (also going to do a day trip to Rocamadour). Did you feel that was a good amount of time to see the area?
((H)) |
You could easily spend a week in Sarlat, but what we did was enough for us.

Thank you Steve for sharing this wealth of information!
Great details, just how I like it. Bookmarking for future trip. |
sssteve - GREAT report, thanks. I can't believe you even stayed in the same ROOM as we did in the Sarlat B&B!!! I still have great memories of our time in the Dordogne area 3 months ago.........
maitaitom - I think the time you have alloted for your trip is decent, although I agree with sssteve (and we DID spend a week in Sarlat) but we took it easy and did not run around all day. Rocamadour is definitely worth a day trip but we did not spend the entire day there, you can add other things to that day, for instance. And make sure you get to the Saturday market in Sarlat (where we, as sssteve, also had rain but just in the a.m. !!!). |
Flame - If we coordinated our trips better, we'd probably wind up in the same room at the same time!
We are in Berlin at the end of September. Are you going to be there too? As for Rocamadour, that's exactly what we did - half a day and then on to other towns in the area. |
I really enjoyed your report. I loved the format of it, all the details, and the photos. =D>
We've been to France often, but not to this area. I will use your report to start planning our next trip. |
TPAYT:
Check out our mother ship web page. It's got lots more trips, several to France: http://www.travel.stv77.com/ |
Very fun to read about your trip and view your beautiful web page to help us plan for our trip to Paris & Dordogne in Sept/Oct. Hoping Sarat will be as uncrowded on that end of the high season as it was for you. We are debating renting a car vs or trying to base ourselves in Sarat and do a self-guided walking tour and perhaps trying to find a local driver for some days. HD has concerns about other rude drivers. I've driven on previous trips to England/Scotland, and Spain and we had a family trip to Italy and didn't have any real driving issues. What was your experience? Does anyone have local drivers to recommend?

<<HD has concerns about other rude drivers>>
Who is HD and why on earth would he/she have concerns about rude drivers? I don't think Sarlat (note the correct spelling) has many private drivers, though I guess almost any place on earth does. There is nothing whatsoever scary about driving in the Dordogne, and rude drivers are a complete non-issue. |
We have never had a problem driving in France. And, the Dordogne is an area which should be driven around in order to appreciate it fully. By driving, I mean "self-driving". It's not the same with a hired driver.

Thank you sssteve! Excellent, I'm sure I'll be around asking you questions in the very near future!
|
Thanks for the photos and the recommendation of La Hoirie. We will be in Sarlat two weeks from today for a 5 night stay.
