Weather Val Gardena June?
I just booked us three days in the Val Gardena for the middle of June. Can anyone tell me from experience what to expect weatherwise and what to pack? Thanks!!!

Val Gardena is gorgeous any time of year--I envy you. In the middle of June it will just be turning warm enough to enjoy with only a light jacket unless you go to the higher elevations. It won't be like summer in most of the US -- it will be cooler compared to anywhere except the extreme northern U.S. Fortunately the valley will be isolated from most heavy wind and weather. It's my favorite place in all of Italy.
I suggest you pack light sweaters, sweatshirt, and jackets and plan to use them in layers. Take long pants and not shorts. Good walking shoes if you intend to hit the hills for a hike. For specific average weather predictions for the area you can go to any number of web sites. There could be showers or it could be clear and sunny. Either way, it will be a wonderful experience. Good luck. |
Here is Bolzano--close enough !

I was there last year around middle of June. The weather was perfect! Warm weather, just enough cloud coverage for great photos, and little rain on one evening. I only wore a light jacket for going up to Pordoijoch and evening stroll around Selva. The Pordoijoch was covered w/ snow at that time, so if you want to hike up there you might want to come prepared. But for hiking Alpe di Siusi, which was the highlight of the trip, I wanted a pair of short. Enjoy! You'll love it! I'm going back there again in early June this year; well, actually eastern dolomite to be exact. :)

Hi Rb - Think 'layers' - like Wayne said.
There's a big difference temperature-wise, depending on altitude (- as you'd expect). I've been there in June when it's been T-shirt weather in the valley and snowing on top. If you're hiking, go prepared ... If you're touring, it can also be completely different from one valley to the next. I hope you're happy with 'Villa Park.' Bob - Bolzano's relatively low (- it has a micro-climate which sometimes makes it one of the hottest places in Italy). Very deceptive ... Steve |
