I'm trying to find out what the weather is like in Venice in late November.

Cold, cold, cold. Actually, I was there over New Years, had a wonderful time, and plan to go back next year, but we were somewhat unprepared for how cold we were - the temps were in the 40's most of the time but it seemed colder than that. I hope you get lucky and November is warmer than December, but bring winter stuff: sweaters, long johns, etc.

We were just there over Thanksgiving Weekend, and the weather was fine--temperature in the high 50s/low 60s, Sunny every day....and the Venice sun is wonderful. We wore leather jackets and were comfortable. <BR>A big advantage in Venice that time of the year: no crowds! It was wonderful going to St. Mark's Square at 9 a.m.and finding only a handful of people there.

I have been in Venice during November. And I too was there this past New Year's. Janice, were you dodging the explosions in St Marks square too?? <BR> <BR>Anyway, Janice is right, it can be a bit cool, but I live in Massachusetts, so it didn't bother me at all. To me it is much better to pack some extra clothing and go during cool weather. Sure beats the summer, when the place is jam-packed with tourists, and it's hot as blazes! <BR> <BR>Bring layers, so you can remove your jacket if it warms up during the day. Then you might need the jacket again if you ride a vaporetto in the evening. <BR> <BR>Oh, and be prepared for the possibility of acqua alta (street flooding!), which I have experienced once in November, but somehow escaped it during my recent new year's trip. On most of the main streets, they put elevated boards to walk on when it floods, and many of the local shops sell galoshes. <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR>

I was in Venice in November of 99 and it was actually quite warm and dry some days. Other days were raw and a bit windy so be prepared to bundle up a bit. Waterproof shoes are a must. I suggest a leather coat, heavier pants and lightweight sweaters. It's well worth the slight inconvenience because Venice is nearly deserted in November - you'll have all the best spots to yourself. I've been in September before but would go back in November whenever I return. <BR> <BR>Restaurant suggestion: Riviera on the Zattere (Giudecca canal).
