The Atlantic coast is often wet and mild (15 C). The coast of Algarve, Costa del Sol and Costa Blanca are drier and the warmest places in Europe in the winter (15-20 C). February may be a very beautiful time in the south with almond trees blooming. Inland is usually much colder, sometimes below freezing, but often sunny and beautiful (0-15 C). Madrid is about so far from the ocean as is possible in Spain, and 2000 ft above sea level. Segovia and Avila even higher, about 3000 ft. Alahambra in Granada is often photographed in the winter, with the snow covered Sierra Nevada (that is exactly what the name means) mountains in the background.
