Weather in September - Paris, Provence and Nice

We are spending our Mid-September honeymoon in paris, provence and nice -- we are starting to think about packing and beginning to wonder what the weather is like during this time. Any thoughts, suggestions, or comments? I am familiar with the weather web sites, but wanted some information prior to the projected five day forecase available on such sites. Any info will be helpful. Thanks

Jackie: We're going to be in Paris and Provence in September so I have the same question. I haven't found any web sites other than those you mention that have five-day forecasts. A table in Fodor's France guide shows daily average high and low temperatures for Paris and Nice by month. In September the high in Nice averages 77F and the low in Paris averages 53F, so I'm planning on a range of 50 to 80. Not too long ago a poster here described temperatures in the low 40s in Paris in late September. I will be prepared to layer in Paris with a sweater or jacket and maybe a light raincoat. Your honeymoon in France will be wonderfully romantic regardless of the weather. Enjoy!

We'll be there also in mid September.
There is a web site that gives lot of info about Provence (inc. weather and what to wear).
try:
www.beyond.fr/travel

The site washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/weather/ has been recommended for reviewing past weather history.

I spent three weeks in the area between Lyon and Provence in September 1998 with more than a week spent in Provence based in Nice during the second and third weeks of September. The weather was utterly glorious and I was led to believe by the people I spoke with that this is typical of this time of year. Do not pack your woolies, though you could have your spouse to be bring a good light dinner jacket and you could bring a light wrap for the time when ocean air temperatures cool during the late evening and you are strolling between clubs or restaurants and your hotel. The average daytime temperature in Nice during the time I was there was mid to high 20's C (high 70's to low 80s for those not familiar with celsius). It was, in fact, too hot to be sitting on the beach or on the ocean front balcony of my hotel between 11 and 3 virtually every afternoon. So I spent the time visiting museums, art galleries and local villages during that time and urge you to do the same -- Matisse, Picasso, St. Paul de Vence, Grasse, there is so much to do, and so much nice weather to do it in.

Prior to your trip I recommend you visit one of the websites which gives you weather for the Cote d'Azur. I did this last year for several weeks before I travelled and had a good feel for where the temperature was going as a result.

Lanny

Hi, Jackie:
We were in Paris in late Sept.'98 - pretty cold (& rainy). Take an umbrella for sure - we also used layered clothing, ending with sweater & windbreaker. We even found some plastic "galoshes" to fit over our shoes so our feet were warm & dry. Most days were a high of 56 degrees - only 1 day out of 7 was really sunny.
We went on to Avignon in early Oct. & the weather was great.
Susan

We spent five days in Paris in mid-Septmeber, 1997 and the weather was beautiful. Each day was between 65-70 degrees and sunny. I had brought a light raincoat and travel umbrella "just in case" and because a friend had experienced iffy weather in September a few years earlier, but didn't need to use them at all. In fact, the clothes I had packed were a little warm (and I didn't wear hose at all).
This year we'll be in Paris and the Loire Valley at the end of September and I have my fingers crossed for the same beautiful weather.
