Weather in Santorini
I will be in Greece mid-April 2005. I'm thinking about visiting Santorini and since this is my first trip there what can I expect for weather? Any hotel recommendations in the $200-300 per day US range? And finally where can I get that unforgettable meal. Thanks for the help.

Probably the weather will be cool-not beach weather. Selene and Sphinx are very good restaurants in Fira. Beautiful views.

grandmere,
Thanks to the response to my query. I leave in Washington state so I'm used to cool. Hopefully it would be above 70F however. Any tips about the island you could offer? Thanks JD |
hi jeff - I was in Santorini in September and loved it so, so much. I got a fair amount of info from this site and I have also posted my trip report. there aer lots of very nice places to stay in your price range.
Just type Santorini into the search box for this forum and you will get lots of info from various postings. Also try looking on tripadvisor.com Have fun! |
I would doubt if it would be above 70,on an average, in April. I've been to Greece/islands twice in mid-May, and that's about what it was then, mid 70ies. I'm from Pgh., so I'm used to cool, also! :-) There are some websites that give avg. temps for places; i don't know it, but someone will surely jump in with it.
Santorini is a stunningly beautiful island; you will love it! We stayed at Volcano View Villas, and the view was gorgeous, but for $200-300 you can probably find an even nicer hotel. Fira, the main town, is the most lively, and Oia, at the other end of the island is lovely but probably quieter. If you run a search on here, you will find lots of info about the best hotels. Have a wonderful time; I hope you are planning to spend at leasta couple of days in Athens, also. It gets a fair amount of bad publicity, but I think it's a wonderful city! |
.........I live in Vancouver where the
weather is almost the same as Seattle - I've been to Santorini in mid-May and almost frozen - big winds, hail storms (yes!) and rain amongst the normal 60 - 70 deg.F temps. So don't assume it's always balmy! Even so, the caldera is worth it. And I second Selene as a terrific restaurant in a beautiful setting. |
Frommer's Greek Islands guide book gives average daily temperatures for Athens and Crete, and it lists 62 as the ADT in Crete for April. Crete is farther south than Santorini.
