Weather In Prague In March

Hi Everyone,

How is the weather in Prague in March? For first time visitors, do you recommend going in March or November? Originally we planned to go on our trip in mid-late November, but my husband thinks that the weather in November doesn't do the city justice for first time visitors as much as March would. So he's thinking about pushing the trip to March. What do you all think?

I'd vote for November: autumn, with some lead up to the Christmas season. March will very early as springtime goes for Prague, and very possibly with pretty raw weather.

We were in Prague in March 2008 and encountered the "raw weather" another poster referenced. We had snow. My photos of the Charles Bridge look like we were in a blizzard. We did enjoy Prague but our experience was affected by the weather...some snow, some cold rain. If you go in the spring/summer, though, my bet is the crowds are much worse. But if November is an option for you (our schedule was dictated by our son's spring break from school), then I think I'd go for that. Just FYI, the three of us liked Budapest more.

That's a toss up. It could snow at either time. If you go in Nov, you're likely to get a deal on hotels. Depending on how Easter falls, March could be touristy (and cost an arm & leg for accomodations), or not. I would just price each time of year, and go when the deals are.

Thanks peggionthego for the heads up about the raw weather. I had no idea! We assumed it might be better in spring but I guess Nov is our best bet.

I'll add that the November weather could well be every bit as cold and wet as the March weather, but somehow I find that it's easier to bear when the landscape's been only recently denuded, as opposed to having already suffered through months of winter. An issue of perception, really, but an important one for me.

Thanks Theresa!

I was wondering, by any chance, does anyone know if Prague will still be covered in light blankets of snow in early March?

Thanks again guys!

Hi Shiuri!

Its hard to say if here will be snow or not! :)
Last spring was totally insane: one week in lovely sunshine and next week just opposite: snowing, freezing and it continued until end of April.

I am originally from finland so i cant see SO big difference, but anyway :)

So I would recommend to come here in November. It a low season here in prague (less tourists like amp322 mentioned) and lighting of the city is just incredible!

Another plug for Novemeber, lol... Petrin and Letna parks will look very pretty at that time of year. I was there in early Nov. several years back, and was able to take some lovely walks and great pictures.

I was also there at the end of March one year (Easter week). The Easter bazaar was open in Old Town (which is good & bad - kind of makes the square look tacky & crowded, but I bought a few nice souvenirs).

Both times, it was a bit cold, but not unbearable. I had a wool coat, and was fine. Was even able to take it off during the afternoon, a few times, but needed it at night!

Either way, I think you will enjoy the city, but don't expect spring temps in March.

Thanks guys! After reading everyone's replies, November is sounding more favorable than March! =)

Thanks again! You guys are super!
