Weather in Prague in August
Hello,
We will be in Prague in August. Can anyone tell me what the weather/temps should be like? According to my guidebook, the average high in August is 66F, which seems low to me. I think I've heard it is usually very hot in the Czech Republic in August. I'm trying to figure out what to bring for clothes & if I need more shorts/capris. Thanks. Karen |

It can get quite warm in August and being in the narrow streets and high side buildings of the old town it can feel very hot.Good thing is there are lots of pavement cafes and bars to sit for a while in the shade.
I have travelled to Prague at various times of the year and never found it to be unbearabley hot.Certainly should be more than warm enough for shorts and Capris.You nay even find you require a sweater to wear in the evening. They also can get a lot of rain,just google Prague floods of August 2002 to get an idea.I was arriving in the city on the day they were evacuating the Old town because of the Floods. |
In late August 2006, we arrived in Prague to find it very cold and rainy. We packed totally wrong and made a quick trip to H&M for some warm clothes.

Prague is on the central european plain and can get very hot in summer. I would suggest that 66 isn't the daily high but the dail average. Have been there in May when it was aournd 80. Assume summer clothing but bring a sweater just in case - as for almose everyplace else in europe.

It can get uncomfortably hot in summer I hear but I had the same experience as Christycruz in 1st week of September 2007. Rainny and cool/cold for the all 4 days of my stay and I bought a cheap muffler at a TESCO store.

Temperatures in the 90s are fairly normal though you can also expect some showers. Bring a pullover for the evenings, a raincoat fo the showers, but you'll never be more than a hundred yards from a warm and welcoming pub or café.

Thanks, everyone, for your helpful information. NYTraveler, I checked my guidebook & you are right, 66F is the daily average. Looks like the temps in Prague are similar to New England in the U.S. where I am from. It can be hot (80's & 90's) but can also be cool & rainy, like it is right now in Massachusetts.
We will also be traveling to Cesky Krumlov, Telc & Karlovy Vary. Should we expect the same variations in those regions as well? Thanks. Karen |
A microweather-forcast is really difficult. Do you expect different weather between a Boston suburb and 70 miles west of Boston. CZ is like New Hampshire, if you don't hit the breaks instantly when you enter, you'll have left the place before the car stops.

O.K. CZ is as big as Bavaria and three times the size of NH. That's HUGE :-)

Well, actually, my mother lives 100 miles west of Boston & sometimes she gets different weather than we do. But I understand what you are saying. Sounds like summer clothes with a sweater or light jacket & at least a pair of long pants thrown in should be sufficient. Thanks!!!! |
