For April, forget the averages. I can be pretty chilly, windy and rainy. It can also be warm and sunny. It can be both rainy and sunny on the same day. April is never predictable.

Dress in layers and be prepared for some rain.

Would you like some actual DATA or simply a bunch of anecdotal "information?"

If the former, you can easily go to www.wunderground.com pick the city or cities and look at the almanac information for a particular date or date range.

Up to you.

On 14 we'll have some wind coming from the north but the day will be agreable
on 15 we'll have some light rain in the morning (from 9 37 to 11 14)
on 16 sun will be shining but temperatures will drop

April is a month not to be trusted in western Europe - unpredictable weather.

In Liguria (Portofino and Bordighera), where the sea has a moderating influence, temperatures are milder than in Milan. Rain is the thing that's most difficult to predict. If it's rainy and windy, it's apt to be quite cool as well. If it's sunny, the temperatures will be higher.

I suggest you check the weather forecast for these places shortly before your trip, but in time to make changes in your packing plans. The site I trust most in Italy is www.itmeteo.com . It will give you a 14-day forecast, but, obviously, it's not as accurate at the longer durations.
