Weather in Italy in October

Will be visiting Italy (Rome, Sienna, Florence, Cinque Terre, Venice and Milan) for 17 days-October 7th thru October 23, 2008. What is the temperature in days and nites during this time of year. Is a sportcoat needed for evening activity to resturants etc?

It will vary greatly at those locations. I suggest you look at weatherbase.com fo details. Rome will be warm---think Atlanta, but Milan may be chilly, think NYC.

Also, www.tutiempo.net is a good website for looking up weather history.

A sport coat is always advisable for dinners and evenings out. It can also be worn easily as an outer layer over just jeans in the cooler areas of your trip, and allows you to dress up a bit with trousers.

I didn't feel any need for a sportcoat, but my wife and I made extensive use of our raincoats and our waterproof shoes during a visit to Rome in October, 2003. It wasn't cold, but it was awfully wet.

I hope you have great weather.... I'm in the Cinque Terre at the same time. I hadnt realised when booking that October is one of the wettest months. That said, other posters have been a little reassuring. Have a great trip and weather.
