Weather in Italy in November
 

Would it be a wrong idea to plan a trip to Italy in last week of October till first week of November?

"a wrong idea" -- you mean, in terms of avoiding cold weather?

If so, what is considered "too cold" or "bearable weather" to you?

(It varies depending on what you're used to...someone coming from southern California might consider 65 F to be "freezing" whereas that same temperature is considered "warm and comfy" by a Bostonian...)

Crikey! Italy's a big country (though not as big as some states of America, admittedly). The weather at the top end will usually be quite different from that at the toe or the heel. Nobody can forecast the weather anywhere that far ahead. [OK, you could say the Sahara Desert is likely to be dry for the next six months.) You can find out what average temperatures are for where you are going for the days you will be there and what the average rainfall has been, but they don't mean anything when you are caught in weather they haven't had in the last 10 years.

Where are you going to? North Italy is forrecast to be warm in October but rainy for start of November. Italy can be cold at night too!

If it doesn't rain it's a great period if you like outdoor sports, hiking.
In the evening of course it can get cold, but during the days, if the sun is out, it's perfect !
I like this period better to travel then in the summer, when it's to hot and you don't have the energy for anything else then relaxing.

Basically were planning to go to Venice, Florence and Rome. the "wrong idea" was more towards getting cloudy and overcast weather, coupled with rains. Wouldnt want to stay indoors going to Italy!!
Agriturismo_Verdita - how bad are the rains in Italy? i mean are they torrential or light showers. I hear Venice can be bad in rains but Rome and Florence do have their intermittent clear days even in November.

I visited Venice, Florence and Rome in early (first week) November, 2006. Yes, it was cool and we got overcast skies along with some drizzle but not every day. Didn't matter. We had umbrellas and raincoats. I think particularly when you are visiting cities the weather is not so important. The good news is that during this low season we had no lines or waits for the important destinations. Easy to get seats and service in restaurants and cafes. Cheaper rates at hotels. Wait staff and other service people were not frazzled by the tourist crush of high season. I LOVE off season travel!

Sorry I have not been in the forum for a while and have just seen your question to me.

The rain can be everything, mostly light showers, but we had also rain that provoked landslides (that was in the first week of may last year).

But I agree with olive_oil, I also love off season travel !
