Weather in Italy

My friend (not a fodorite) is planning on taking a trip to Italy in March or April with her daughter. She will be visiting Rome and Florence, perhaps the Amalfi Coast, perhaps Venice.

Her specific plans are not set. She is in the first stages - finding a flight, picking the best time. Her question is: What will the weather be like in March or April? She would have to do a bit of maneuvering at work to go in April. Would the weather difference between March and April (beginning of April) be worth the hassle?

Any thoughts about March or April on the Amalfi Coast?

At the risk of stating the obvious, both months will be spring-like, which is to say, variable. March will not likely be wintery. Of course, April days will certainly be longer, and almost surely warmer.

Apri l will not be "beach" weather, in the same sense as Daytona.

See www.weatherbase.com for detailed statistics.

Best wishes,

Rex

March and April have been two months where we have seen more snow here in Tuscany than when most would assume it should snow. I can be cold and snowy or mild-cold and rainy. Personally I love March and February in Tuscany. Seems more real then. Prices go up in April too.

Hi jane,

>Would the weather difference between March and ...(beginning of April) be worth the hassle?<

Mid to end of March and 1st week in April will be nearly identical.

>She will be visiting Rome and Florence, perhaps the Amalfi Coast, perhaps Venice.<

At that time of year, I suggest Venice over the AC.

Hi Jane,

I'm the daughter! Thanks to all for the good info. The "prices go up in April" info sealed our decision to go in March.

Thanks to all who answered for us two "ChicagoGals."
