Hi, I usually take the rer when traveling to Paris. This trip I will be with 4 ladies and our hotel is close to gare du nord. My question is when we arrive at our stop, are there elevators or escalators to the street level at gare du nord?

Escalators are probably your best bet. There are elevators, but depending on where you get off the train, they might be the opposite way from the street.

Just keep going in the direction your train is traveling, and you'll eventually come out on Rue de Dunkerque.

Lots of escalators, but also some cleverly concealed elevators. Everybody should be informed that the RER A, RER B, RER D and RER E are totally equipped for the parts inside Paris for anybody with mobility issues or cumbersome luggage.

Also please note that there are special turnstiles for going through with suitcases, but in places where you don't see such a thing, luggage should always go through a turnstile in front of you, not behind you!

Finally, it can be pointed out that the RER inside Paris also has "wheelchair" entrances and exits with automatic swinging doors if you have anything really huge to get into or out of the RER. There is a place to insert your ticket or wave your Navigo. Don't panic: it takes a few moments for the doors to swing open.
