just wondering how maraschino compares with kirschwasser, besides both being clear.
I'll just have to go buy the darn stuff.

I tried various maraschino liquers while in Zadar, Croatia. Some packed a wallop while others made for very pleasent sipping.

not sure about the daiquiri recipe in the NYT

Elaine, Kirschwasser is higher proof (the bottle I have is 45% alcohol, as opposed to 30% for maraschino), and it isn't sweet at all. I'd say that the flavor of maraschino is a little more delicate and floral; Kirschwasser, like most eaux-de-vie, tends to be a bit "hot" (i.e., alcoholic) in flavor.

Speaking of liquors. When in Spain a few years ago, the restaurant served a cherry liquor after dinner. I don't remember the brand now, but when returning home I could not find it at my local liquor warehouse. Does this ring a bell with anyone? If so, what was the brand name?

warning warning, Florida has a Lillet shortage LOL
We have tried for a week to get a bottle of Lillet Rouge and seems they are waiting for deliveries..huh?
Campari is too herby to me, don't want anything sweet ( we still have Cassis-headaches) so what do you suggest?
Thank you

Hi Sheinberg,

that spanish liquor must be patxaran. It is not made with cherries, but with a kind of wild berries. Some of the most famous are La Navarra, Etxeko, Basarana ...

I have had strawberries marinated in a red wine. They were good as I recall. I think she had them in a Lambrusco.

Of course this was after a couple of glasses of sangria, so maybe that isn't a reliable opinion. They were served for a dessert.

I don't think they were in there for very long though. They weren't mushy. Everything was just sweet and fruity.

Cova, thank you. Went to the webb site you referred me to and there it was. The brand I was looking for is Zuco. Four other brands were listed. Tomorrow I will visit my local liquor whrehouse.

Hi Sheinberg,
in case you donīt find it ( I have found it difficult to find abroad, even in places with a great availability of spanish wines ), you might want to have a look at the following sites :
http://tinyurl.com/d9nmd (Sabor de Navarra)
http://www.spiritscorner.com/ing/index.html
http://www.selectspain.net/us2/home.html

I think that an US shop has been mentioned a few times, and they have an online shop, but I cannot remember the name right now ...

If you cannot find the Zoco brand, "Las Endrinas" (endrina is the name of the berry in spanish), "Etxeko" and "Basarana" are also quite good.

Scarlett, many years ago a friend who frequently visited Milan introduced me to the Negroni but made it with gin and Punt e Mes instead of Campari, gin and vermouth.

Anyone with a few minutes to spare might get a kick out of visiting this site if for nothing more than the names of cocktails. Have fun.
