We REALLY do not want to rent a car. We've only been to Italy once before and my fiance and I are both terrible when it comes to directions in our own country...much less Italy. Any suggestions on activities or nearby excursions?

mcwedding, I'm not familiar with the Hotel you mention, but I would suggest that if you don't want a car, you need to stay in a place with good public transportation. I brought your hotel up on Google and while it looks wonderful, it sure is REMOTE. You need to ask yourself if you will be content sitting there admiring the view day after day and night after ight (how long are you staying?) or if you would rather be doing spur of the moment exploring and walking off for a romantic dinner somewhere different each evening. You can always hire a car and driver, but that still requires major planning (not to mention expense if that's an issue). We do trips sometimes with a car and sometimes without, but I'd never book us into even a slightly remote location when we don't have a car.

Maybe it might be helpful to describe where this hotel is.

Not really ! Why stay there if you do not want to drive--there are many good options.

Relais La Suvera is due west of Siena, but their website gives driving directions of going to Colle di Val d'Elsa and then driving another 15 Kms into the country. In other words, it is about a 30-35 KM drive from Siena. But since its rooms start at well over $400 US per night, maybe hiring a car and driver daily is an option. Not the way I like to tour -- I'd prefer my own flexibility, but certainly a thought.

Once again, the place looks WONDERFUL. But you have to decide which is more important and what you really want to do if staying there.

Hi mc,

The closest bus stop to your hotel is in Colle di Val d'Elsa, about 15km.

I'm sure the hotel can arrange for a taxi for you to visit Siena or get you to abus for Florence, san Gimignano, etc.

They will also have the bus and train schedules.

Enjoy your visit, and please let us know about the Relais La Suvera.
