We love Venice in October....now wondering how it will be April.
In October we made our 2nd trip to Venice in 2 years, both during the same week. We thought the weather was perfect and we did not find the crowds a problem. Now we want to return in April and are wondering how it will compare with our fall trips. Has anyone been there both in October and April who could tell us what we might expect?

We have been to Venice in both October and April, late April a year ago. The weather at both times was very much the same, warm days and pleasant evenings that were cooler but still comfortable. In October it was not too crowded, by Venice standards that is, as the city is always bustling. The only problem with April is the date of Easter. I am not sure when you are going in relation to the holiday, but we have found that Easter season in Italy is very crowded. Good Friday, almost eveything is closed and the day after Easter is a holiday as well.

April and October are our favorite months to visit ANYPLACE in Europe.
We have learned, however, to try and avoid EAster Week...more crowded and it's often a big school holiday. We were in VEnice the last week of April last year. Thunderstorm and buckets of blowing rain on the 25th, the day we had set aside to walk around Venice. Stayed over and on April 26 it was absolutely GORGEOUS...sunny, clear, cool! Guess one never knows. The ride on route #1(?) Vaporetto was spectacular and fun on such a pretty day.
I too would think Oct and April are very much the same, weatherwise.

We were there the second week of this past April and it was VERY COLD and WINDY. Almost hard to enjoy the city. But we ran into a couple in Rome the week before who were there the last week of March and said it was sunny and beautiful in Venice that week. Like mari5 said, you just never know.

This does not apply to Venice specifically, but I do want to agree very strongly with the previous posters who have said: "You never know!"
The weather has become totally unpredictable, in Italy as elsewhere. You need only look at the unseasonal cold and snow in Italy this past week.
I was in Sicily the first two weeks of October: It was cold and rained almost every day. I have just read a trip report from someone who was there in November and had only sun and 70 degree weather! I could have wept.
So, "you take your pick and you take your chances!"

You never know. My children and I were in Venice 3 years ago in April (first week) and it wasn't just cold, it actually snowed, the first snow in Venice in years. It had been warm and sunny the previous week.
